Keep Product Type Untranslated Across Your Entire Catalogue

Not everything in your store needs to be translated. For many merchants, Product type is one of those fields. It often works behind the scenes, so it works best in your original language.
Until now, keeping it untranslated meant blocking it on each product separately. Today we’re introducing a store-wide setting that does it in one step.
The problem: blocking product by product doesn’t scale
Product type often does more than describe a product. In many Shopify stores it’s used to:
- Build automated collections
- Power filters on the storefront
- Organise products for feeds, marketing tools and reports
When Product type is translated, setups like these may not behave the way you expect in other languages. Blocking it per product is fine for a small catalogue. With hundreds or thousands of products, and new ones added every week, it isn’t realistic.
The solution: one switch for your whole catalogue
With Block translation on all products, you turn off translation for Product type once, and it applies:
- To every product already in your store
- To every new product you add later
- To automatic translations, including automation rules
- In all markets
Turning it on also removes existing Product type translations, so your storefront shows the original value right away.
Set it once, and Product type stays in your original language from then on. Changed your mind? Turn the switch off and choose Restore previous translation to bring your earlier Product type translations back.
You can still block other fields on individual products, just as before.
